Retail Bag Project

1. How do you believe your design relates to the corporate Identity of your company?

I believe my bag design relates to the corporate identity accurately because my design is simple, such as the original Macy’s bag. Also my bag still displays the signature Macy’s star, font, and colors.

2. How does your bag portray the “holiday”?

My bag portrays the “holiday” because it has the outline of Christmas trees arranged in the shape of a star, and there are snowflakes on the sides, both of which are common items for the holiday season.

3. Do you think that the company you designed for would really use your bag? Why or why not?

I think Macy’s might really use the bag I designed because although it has more to it than a normal Macy’s bag does, it is still pretty simple and elegant at the same time. i believe that it still follows the corporate identity.

4. What makes your bag Unique and Different?

What makes my bag unique is that it takes the shape of a Christmas tree that we all know so well and forms the trees into the iconic Macy’s star so it is recognizable that it is a bag for Macy’s.

4. Describe the process in which you took to create the bag? (From beginning to end)

First I image traced an image of a pine tree and I made sure you could tell what it was, I tested out multiple different trees (some more of a cartoon style, some more realistic with more dense or less dense branches). Then I used the live paint tool to make the trees white. I made sure the trees lined up so that the star was even and symmetrical. Then I tested out different styles of snowflakes with the image trace tool. I also used live paint to make the snowflakes white. Next, I arranged the snowflakes on the sides of the bag so it looked like they were falling. I used a solid red background because the original Macy’s colors are red and white. Then when I assembled the bag, I used white paper handles from a bag I had at home, and I used these because I felt that it was something Macy’s would normally use and it didn’t look cheap.
