Magazine Design
1. How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of Magazine Design and the parts of a magazine cover and interior?
The design I created demonstrates my knowledge of magazine design and the parts of a magazine cover because I made sure to include all of the essential aspects of a magazine cover such as cover lines, masthead, dateline, etc. I also made sure to use common colors like yellow and red for the type of magazine I created, which is a gossip magazine. I also used the drop shadow effect, which is commonly used on covers to make the cover lines pop out.
2. In what ways does your magazine connect to the corporate identity of the magazine? What are some design queues that you used from the existing magazine?
My magazine connects to the corporate identity of the magazine because it uses the same bright colors like yellow and red to grab the reader’s attention. I also used a yellow sidebar to put the cover lines in which is used in many OK! Magazine covers.
3. How did completing the brainstorming packet and sketches affect your design process?
Completing the brainstorming packet allowed for me to be able to work out the placement and spacing of images and cover lines before I actually did it in adobe illustrator.
4. How did you like working with a partner? How do you think working with a partner makes the design process easier and more difficult?
I enjoyed working with a partner because they could help you make decisions to improve my work. Also because they’re personally invested in the second half of their grade, they'll give their honest opinion of your work. It was difficult because although you can give suggestions about your partner’s work, ultimately you cannot control what they produce.
5. Looking at your partner’s design, if you were to design your partner’s portion by yourself how would it look different? What would you have changed?
I would have changed all the subheads to be the same color and I would’ve made the author credit easier to read.
6. Describe the ideal partner (co-worker / co –designer)?
The ideal partner is someone who will work well with you, give constructive criticism, and will do his or her fair share of work.
